Collaborations & Linkages

Reaching out.

The library's realization of its role as an integral part of the academic communities could be observed in its significant partnerships to the UP Engineering community, the UP community, the global Engineering community, and the community of Philippine Academic Research Libraries.

Collaborations with Faculty Members

To ensure a strong engineering collection in support of the academic and research needs of the College of Engineering (COE) stakeholders, UP EnggLib actively maintains close ties and works hand in hand with the COE faculty through the Library Faculty Committee (LFC). LFC, in a way, dictates the direction and composition of EnggLib's collection because faculty members decide on the allocation of funds in terms of print-electronic acquisition ratio. This partnership has also supported EnggLib in terms of ensuring that its collection and services address the instruction, research and extension needs of the whole College.

LFC Planning Workshop
The committee acts as the coordinating body between the library and the faculty, approves all purchases of library materials, and controls the allocation of the budget. Aside from its quarterly meetings, the Annual LFC Planning Workshop is also being held wherein the committee members gather, evaluate, and decide which e-resources or databases the library should subscribe to, renew, or weed out.

Kapihan sa Aklatan
Kapihan sa Aklatan is an annual event which serves as a library orientation and forum to inform new faculty members on the use of library resources, facilities and collections, assist them to discover subject-specific and multidisciplinary e-resources, and to update them with the upcoming online resources of the Library. This is conducted by the Library as a special service for the faculty, a way of assuring that the faculty members are valuable partners and contributors of EnggLib.

Annual Research Symposium
EnggLib facilitates the conduct of seminars and symposiums on research, publication, writing ethics and other related topics which will help the faculty and students in their research work and study.

Electronic Mailing Lists
Beyond these methods, however, the Library has devised other ingenious ways to encourage active faculty participation in collection development. One is through the use of electronic mailing lists wherein, aside from regular library announcements, book lists for selection that contain hyperlinks to bibliographic data online were also being sent. Book evaluation and selection is therefore facilitated in a convenient manner since faculty can simultaneously browse book titles, evaluate their content online, and send their purchase recommendations to the Library in real time.

Consortium of Engineering Libraries - Philippines (CELPh)

CELPh is a non-profit, non-stock organization established in 2014, pursuing joint acquisition of and subscription to electronic resources (i.e. online databases, electronic books and serials, et al.).
The academic institutions involved aim to share online resources and provide better access to the consortium's collection at lower cost, to upgrade the professional and personal competencies of its members, and to exchange information on professional issues, best practices and appropriate technical services. This linkage, in a way an off-shoot of the then DOST-ESEP Library Network, would expand further the reach and depth of EnggLib in terms of bargaining power in database subscriptions and resource sharing.

The prime members of the consortium are Ateneo de Manila University, Central Luzon State University, Dela Salle University, FEATI University, Mapua Institute of Technology, Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology, Technological Institute of the Philippines (Quezon City), Technological Institute of the Philippines (Manila), UP Diliman College of Engineering Library, UP Los Banos, University of San Carlos, University of Sto. Tomas (Miguel de Benavides Library), and Xavier University (Ateneo de Cagayan).

Partnerships with Library Associations and Student Organizations

EnggLib actively co-organizes events with other UP and non-UP institutions, commercial providers, and student organizations like the UP Engineering Student Council (UP ESC), UP Library and Information Science Students' Association (UP LISSA), and UP Future Library and Information Professionals of the Philippines (UP FLIPP). The Library also serves as a venue not only for college and university events, but also hosts programs for library organizations like the UP Library Science Alumni Association (UPLSAA) and other skills-sharing and scholarly initiatives. Moreover, the Library is an active institutional member of the Philippine Association of Academic/Research Librarians, Inc. (PAARL).
